Who you are reflects where you're from
When we ask someone where they are from,
we want to learn more than just a place on the map.
Where you're from impacts:
what you see,
where you live,
who you spend time with,
how you talk,
what you believe and value,
what you eat,
and
what you do with your time.
Where you're from impacts how you view the world
and how you live your life.
George Ella Lyon wrote the poem "Where I'm from" to describe memories of her childhood in Kentucky.
1. Read "Where I'm from" and the others written in the same style.
2. Notice the sights, smells, sounds, tastes, and feelings Lyon recalled. Each of these references represents something she experienced that influenced her.
3. Can you relate to anything Lyon has said? Does anything sound familiar?
What did she mention that you would you like to know more about?
